Chula Maiz jewelry is inspired by the colors of nature, culture, and life. ChulaMaiz  is a play on words, the name ChulaMaiz was created from playing with the catchy name of a Mexican corn snack, churritos, named Churrumais and combining two words that identify the collection. Chula meaning charming, cute and beautiful and Maiz, corn, as a symbol representing culture and roots. The words together create a line of jewelry and accessories that are unique, bold and fun.

Sterling silver, copper and a wide variety of gemstones, pearls and high quality glass are the favorite materials chosen by California artist Rena Yarbrough Howe for her handmade jewelry designs.  As she selects the best combination of items to include in her pieces, she uses her meticulous eye for detail, durability and esthetics, resulting in wonderfully fun and attractive necklaces, earrings and bracelets which have an ageless heirloom quality.

Rena is a certified gemologist and learned silver smithing from her mother at about 14 years of age.  Her fascination for gemstones and their metaphysical meanings has manifested itself into her special line of Talisman pendants. Each having a specific purpose which is carefully explained on a card and attached to each necklace. These awesome necklaces can be purchased at Coast Hwy Traders.

Rena is not only creative but loves to “re-purpose” old sterling silver, silverware, and old gems into new and exciting jewelry. Much of what she uses are found items, hunted down through estate sales, auctions and second hand shops. The quest is an ongoing ambition to find cool vintage and antique items, incorporated their uniqueness into her imaginative designs, giving them new life in the form durable jewelry, made to last for decades to come.

His Thoughts on Dia De Los Muertos.

“To me, every day is Dia De Los Muertos. When we remember a loved one who passed away,

that is their day.  In a way, Birthday parties are like Dia De Los Muertos celebrations

because you get showered with gifts and surround yourself with your favorite things.

Loved ones enjoy them “with” you. “…Mando
